Frequently asked questions
Does this remove hidden personal information?
No. It changes standard document metadata only; it does not inspect page content. Existing custom XMP metadata may be replaced.
Can I clear a field?
Yes. Type a single - in a box to remove that property or date. A blank box keeps the current value. To remove everything at once, including the XMP block and hidden data, use Remove PDF Metadata.
Can I change the creation and modification dates?
Yes, to any date from 1900, as 2026-09-30 or 2026-09-30 14:30 in UTC, or "now". Leaving the modification date blank records this edit as the modification time, and the creation date stays as it was.
Can I edit a PDF/A archive?
No. This tool refuses PDF/A documents because changing their metadata here could break archival conformance.
Does redacting a PDF also remove its document properties?
No. Redact PDF removes what is under the boxes on the pages, and the title, author and keywords are separate. Check them here after redacting a document.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Edit PDF Metadata runs entirely in your browser: the file is opened and processed on your own device and is never sent to our server. More in the privacy policy.
Is Edit PDF Metadata free to use?
Yes. Edit PDF Metadata is free, with no account to create and no software to install — open the page in a modern browser and start.
