How to convert Word to PDF

  1. Choose your documents

Open one or more DOCX, DOC, ODT or RTF files. The engine starts loading while you pick settings.

  2. Pick the settings

Accept tracked changes, choose comments, paper size, pages, image quality, PDF/A, a watermark or a password.

  3. Preview and download

Check the page previews, and any fonts the converter had to substitute, then download the PDF or a ZIP.

How the Word conversion works

Print-ready options

Accept all tracked changes for a clean final copy, print comments in the margin, switch Letter to A4, and skip Word's blank filler pages.

Accessible and archival

Every PDF is tagged for screen readers, with headings as bookmarks. Choose PDF/A-2b or PDF/A-3b for archives, or PDF/UA for accessibility checks.

Exact fonts

The converter lists the document's fonts, matches Calibri, Cambria, Arial and Times metric for metric, and lets you add any other font from a file or from your computer.

Batches, locally

Convert up to 20 documents at once into separate PDFs or one combined PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a DOCX to PDF?

Open the DOCX here, choose any settings, and download the PDF. DOC, ODT and RTF files work the same way, and the document is never uploaded.

How do I remove tracked changes from the PDF?

Set Tracked changes to Accept all changes. The PDF shows the final text as if every change had been accepted in Word; your original document is not changed.

Will the PDF look exactly like Microsoft Word?

Close, when the fonts match. Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are replaced by fonts with identical widths, so lines and pages break in the same places. For other fonts, such as Aptos, add the font files under Fonts, or use the fonts installed on your computer in Chrome or Edge.

Can I password-protect the PDF?

Yes. Enter a password under Watermark and password; the PDF is encrypted with AES-256 and you can block printing or copying.

Why does the first conversion take longer?

The browser downloads the Office engine once: about 52 MB, stored on your device as ~250 MB. Later visits skip the download, and the page shows the engine is ready before you choose a file. Conversions then start in seconds and take well under a second per document.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Word to PDF runs entirely in your browser: the file is opened and processed on your own device and is never sent to our server. More in the privacy policy.

Is Word to PDF free to use?

Yes. Word to PDF is free, with no account to create and no software to install — open the page in a modern browser and start.

Choose what IwillPDF may use. You can come back and change this at any time from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
