How to sign a PDF
Open your PDF
Choose an unlocked PDF. All its pages appear together down the main screen, without an inner scrollbar. Zoom in or jump to a page to find where you need to sign.
Make and place your signature
Type your name, draw on the pad with a mouse, pen or finger, or upload a photo and crop it to your signature. Click a page to place it, drag it into position, and drag its bottom-right handle to resize. Add more signatures, such as initials, and copy any of them to other pages.
Review and download
Create the signed copy and check every signed page before sending it to the recipient.
What kind of signature this is
Three ways to sign
Type a name in a signature style, draw it by hand, or upload a photo or scan of your real signature. Crop the photo to the signature, and the paper, shadows included, becomes transparent.
Several signatures, on any pages
Make more than one signature, say a full signature and initials, each in its own color. Place each as often as you need with its own size and position, duplicate it on the page, or copy it to the same spot on all pages or pages such as 2, 4-6.
Preview the placement
See the same signature image that will be embedded in the downloaded file, at its real proportions.
Keyboard-accessible controls
Size and position sliders and the arrow keys place each signature without relying on dragging.
A separate signed copy
The original stays intact. Your document is processed locally.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an e-signature or a digital signature?
It is a visible electronic signature (e-signature): an image of your signature on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so it does not provide a certificate, identity verification, or a tamper-evident audit trail.
Can I request signatures from other people?
This tool is for placing your own visible signature. It does not send signing invitations or track recipients.
Can I use a picture of my handwritten signature?
Yes. Choose Upload, pick a PNG, JPG or WebP, and drag the crop box around your signature. With Remove background on, the paper becomes transparent, even where the photo is shadowed, so only the ink sits on the page; the Cleanup slider keeps faint strokes or removes more shading. The image is processed on your device and never uploaded.
Can I sign more than one page, or add initials?
Yes. Click a page, or use Place signature on page, to place a signature as many times as you need, each with its own size and position. New signature makes another one, such as your initials in a different color. To repeat a placed signature, use Duplicate on this page, or Copy to other pages with all or a list such as 2, 4-6.
Can I sign a protected PDF?
Unlock it first with Unlock PDF using a valid password, then add the visible signature.
Can I fill in a form's fields as well as sign it?
Yes. Fill & Sign fills a form's own text boxes, checkboxes and dropdowns, and places text, ticks and your signature anywhere on the page.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Sign PDF runs entirely in your browser: the file is opened and processed on your own device and is never sent to our server. More in the privacy policy.
Is Sign PDF free to use?
Yes. Sign PDF is free, with no account to create and no software to install — open the page in a modern browser and start.
