How to convert a PDF to Excel
Open a PDF with table data
Text-based tables give the clearest results. Select only the pages you need.
Choose worksheet options
Keep pages on separate sheets or combine their rows. Include non-table text if you need captions and notes.
Review the workbook
Download the XLSX and check column alignment, merged cells, and totals against the original.
How tables are extracted
Position-based extraction
Aligned text is grouped into rows and columns, without an external conversion service.
Numbers you can add up
Amounts, quantities and percentages become real numbers, so totals and sorting work. Codes and IDs, such as 00123, stay text with their leading zeros, and nothing is turned into a formula.
Separate or combined sheets
Review each source page separately or collect the extracted rows into one worksheet.
Frequently asked questions
Will this recover the original formulas?
No. A PDF normally contains displayed values rather than spreadsheet formulas. The workbook has those values, as numbers where they are numbers, so you can add your own formulas.
How accurate is table detection?
It works best on clearly aligned text. Merged cells, wrapped content, and multiple tables with different column positions may require cleanup.
Can I convert a scanned table?
English OCR can recover text from a scan, but it may not recover reliable column boundaries. Always compare scanned numbers and row alignment with the source.
Can I get a CSV file instead?
Yes. Choose CSV under Save as. The same tables are written as comma-separated text, each cell as printed, in UTF-8 that Excel opens with ₹ and Indian-language text intact. Empty cells stay empty. Keep XLSX when codes such as 00123 must keep their leading zeros.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. PDF to Excel runs entirely in your browser: the file is opened and processed on your own device and is never sent to our server. More in the privacy policy.
Is PDF to Excel free to use?
Yes. PDF to Excel is free, with no account to create and no software to install — open the page in a modern browser and start.
